LUMIN® Recognized for Best Practices Among Agro-Export Companies in Latin America and the European Union

In recent years, LUMIN has actively taken part in events and publications that provide opportunities to share and exchange experiences on its journey toward gender equality, engaging with international organizations, government bodies and business associations alike.

As part of this work, LUMIN was selected by the All Invest Program, financed by the European Union in collaboration with Uruguay’s Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, to be featured in the report “Best Practices in Incorporating Gender Perspectives in Agro-Export Companies in Latin America and the European Union.”

About AL-INVEST Verde

AL-INVEST Verde is a program funded by the European Union with the goal of fostering sustainable growth and job creation in Latin America. The program supports the transition toward a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and circular economy by strengthening public policies and multi-stakeholder dialogue around sustainable agricultural and value chains, environmental and labor standards, as well as sustainable trade, economic policies, and regulatory frameworks.

Highlights from LUMIN’s case study include:

  • Establishing a Gender Equality Action Plan.
  • Creating the Arcoiris Childcare Center for the children of employees (also open to the community), designed to improve work-life balance with extended, flexible hours adapted to families’ needs.
  • Promoting equal opportunities throughout the value chain, including monitoring whether partner companies are women-owned or women-led.
  • Supporting economic empowerment and workforce participation for women, such as the Leñeras Project, a pilot program supporting women-led businesses producing and selling firewood in Tacuarembó.
  • Running awareness campaigns on breast cancer prevention.
  • Delivering training and awareness activities on workplace sexual harassment and gender-based violence.

The report on Best Practices also emphasizes the importance of:

  • Designing future action plans.
  • Eliminating discriminatory practices.
  • Promoting professional development opportunities for women and implementing follow-up strategies.
  • Evaluating gender equality and equity indicators.
