The industrial phase of LUMIN began in late 2004 with the construction of a plywood plant in Tacuarembó, inaugurated in June 2006. A year later, the company expanded industrially with further investments in Tacuarembó and significant allocations toward land and plantations.
These projects also committed to sustainable renewable energy production using biomass. This initiative was recognized as a "Project of National Interest" by the Uruguayan government, reflecting its substantial positive impact on regional economies.
The New Plywood Cerro Largo Plant
It will have:

- PERMANENT PRODUCTION CYCLE
Lumin operates 365 days a year. Our production cycle begins in the nursery phase, followed by timberlands development, industrial manufacturing, logistics and marketing. - PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT
We are a source of stable, long-term employment for people in the local are. Our staff are mainly from Tacuarembó, Rivera, Treinta y Tres and Cerro Largo. - EXPANSION INTO NEW MARKETS
The expansion is part of Lumin's strategy to capitalize on the growing global demand for sustainable timber products that meet strict quality and sustainability standards for the construction and furniture sectors.
The project plan:
- Construction of the new plant began in 2023 and created more than 250 jobs.
- We will be recruiting and training staff
- 2026: Operations in the new plant will begin
- From 2026 onwards: We will be producing and exporting higher volumes of sustainable plywood and logs.
Investment:
- $136 million USD has invested in the new plant. This follows investments of US $48 million made over the last two years into our existing facilities, which includes construction of a thin peel line and a new warehouse facility.
- Investment will result expand Lumin’s production capacity to nearly 500,000 cubic meters.
